I will be the first to admit that I religiously watch the Love and Hip-Hop franchise every Monday, at 8 pm on VH1. That is the only time I watch it though. No marathons, no behind the scenes on You-tube, none of that. I am a Monday only viewer. No one believes me when I say I watch L&HH for discussions with my peers but you will when you read this.

Last night was the #LHHNY season 8 premiere. This season we are introduced to three new characters, Baltimore Native Lil Mo who is from Baltimore and not New York but whatever, former Bad Girls Club: Social Distortion star Tabatha aka “Dreamdoll and Anais the Spanish rapper (a Joseline Hernandez knockoff with a terrible, terrible wig). Then you have the original

cast mates, Rich Dollaz, Mariah Lynn, Yandy, Mendeecees from Prison, Juju, Nicki Minaj's’ ex, Snoop from the Wire (idk why she is still on this show), Dj Self, Papoose, the Chicken Noodle soup girl and the beloved Remy Ma.

The season premiere opened with Remy Ma discussing her instant success after getting released from prison! Her goal in this episode was t

o conjure up Female Empowerment amongst the melanin-filled sisters! She went on to allude to her beef with other female artists in the rap game (Minaj) but claimed that she just wants to thrive as a rap artist and call it a day. At first, I was sold by her pitch, nodding my head in agreement. U

ntil an hour later when the Shade room strategically posted a picture of Remy huddle up next to Lil Kim on a video set. That’s when I knew, shit was about to get real.

Low and Behold, my 20 news notifications come in as soon as I hop on the metro. Like every millennial, I skipped over all the 45 News because I don’t care and geared my eyes towards the entertainment. My trustworthy XXL and Fader news came thru and both of them addressed

Remy Ma and Lil Kim teaming up for a new track. I was quite excited so of course, I opened up the notification and got to reading. Apparently, this track is for Remy Ma’s anticipated album “Seven Winters and Six Summers” and it’s throwing major shots at Nicki Minaj. So, I’m reading this article thinking about what Remy was talking about last night on Love, and Hip-Hop yapping that “Women’s Empowerment” fu-fu.

Following this article, The Breakfast Club posted their You-tube video of the day which included a leaked snippet of this song (Click Here: Skip 2:47). When I say Remy bodied that one verse, she straight bodied it. Now as a follower of Hip Hop I know beef can go on for years and years on end but dang was this track necessary? Is Remy Ma and Lil Kim really that hurt? Maybe I’m looking at things from a non-petty perspective. Why bank on your beef w/another female artist who seems to not even care about you, your album or your life? Same question goes to Lil Kim.

Now I’m a fan of all three artists but I want to know if this artistry drive is out of jealousy? Us women can hold grudges for a long time if we choose to but, doing that doesn’t solve a darn thing. Everything that person does will make you mad so, you go out of your way to dim their light or undermine their accomplishments. We want to call ourselves empowering women but choose to do petty things like make diss tracks discrediting accomplishments or go on national television to call someone out. I’m not even going to put all the blame on Remy because Nicki is just as guilty, unfortunately, she does her pettiness with her money, not her mouth.

So, Remy, I’m conflicted. What do you want to do? Do you want to uplift or destroy? If you saw Nicki Minaj what would you do? Lil Kim, tell me why you’re really mad. I think Iyanla Vanzant needs to have a Restoration House episode featuring old rappers and new rappers so this problem can be solved. I hope they get it together though.
